I am a former Special Education teacher with twenty years of experience. I have a special interest in dyslexia and currently tutor remotely using the Barton Reading & Spelling system.
I am a Learning Disabilities Specialist who currently works in private practice in Rocklin, California. I specialize in children and adults who have challenges in reading, spelling, and writing. My background includes a Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology/Audiology, Multiple Subject and Special Education teaching credentials, and a Master’s Degree in Special Education. I spent most of my career in the public schools working as a Special Education Teacher with all grade levels. I have worked in the San Francisco Bay area, Australia, and greater Sacramento area.
As a private tutor I have a special interest in individuals who are having difficulty mastering reading. I mainly use the Barton Reading & Spelling System, an Orton-Gillingham based program, to address and teach explicit skills needed to become successful readers. I have witnessed my own daughter make monumental strides after being tutored in this program. Whether or not you or your child has been diagnosed with dyslexia, the Barton program goes beyond phonics to systematically address spelling rules and phonemic awareness skills which are often lacking in traditional classroom instruction.
